Ideas and Plans

Ideas I could take on

  • The point of view of someone watching / reading the news
  • My own point of view
  • A made-up point of view
  • The point of view of the Dale Farm travellers themselves
  • The point of view of an innocent child
  • The point of view of a friend / family member

My Plan

I would like to focus my video on a child's opinion of Dale Farm. If a child was asked what they thought Dale Farm was, without knowing the story, they would assume, obviously, that it was a farm in which they would be able to see animals, and play in a park. It is this complete innocence that I would like to work with.

I am not entirely sure what direction to take this idea yet, but I will develop some ideas, and try out a selection of different ideas, before making a firm decision.

Ideas

I have considered using childlike images of farm animals within actual images from the carnage that happened at Dale Farm.

Child-like pig drawings that could be animated

More Ideas

I have access to a child's farm animal set, and thought that this could possibly be used in my video, by animating parts of it, or even asking a child to replicate the Dale Farm scene from their perspective.

The scene could be changed in a number of different ways, and I will have a go at some different ideas.

Developing my Idea

Ethan
This is Ethan. He is 7, and is the son of my closest friend. I am interested in his opinion of the Dale Farm evictions, and would like to focus my work around this. Ethan is able to give a good, interesting opinion on something, and would be great to work with for this project. I will be briefing him on the subject, speaking to him directly, and then working with him in order to move forward with this work. I believe that he will push me in the right direction, simply with what he says. A child's opinion of the news should be just important as mine or yours. They are, after all, our future.

Eliminating Issues:

Danielle (and Sally the dog)
Due to the inability to work with Ethan, due to money and time constraints, I have asked for the help of Danielle, my friend's 11 year old niece. Danielle and I get on very well, and I felt that she would be a great person to form an opinion of Dale Farm from her own experiences, as well as what I tell her about the eviction.

Danielle is very well spoken, funny, opinionated, and has life experience, even at a young age. Having briefed her about the project, she is keen to voice her own opinion, and has certainly been controversial! She is perfect for the role, and has been a great help so far. I am confident that she will help in creating a great piece of work.

She wants to call the broadcast 'Wilby News'.
