Children

Thomson In-Flight Safety Video:

I discussed this video with a couple of friends, and I found it to be quite inspirational:

On-board safety videos (particularly shown on planes and boats) are something that a lot of us would admit we don't really pay 100% of our attention to when they are being shown. Thomson had the brilliant idea of using children for their video. This makes it a lot more interesting to watch, as it is cute, eye-catching, and very different to what we are used to seeing. I would watch it every time I was on a flight.

Would the news be more interesting if a child read it? This is something to consider as I progress with my work.

Children Doing the News:

An interesting range of videos of children presenting fake news broadcasts.

I like the setup for this one. Your typical screen in the background, showing the news, and the child dressed up in 'grown-up' clothes. The fact he is messing about at the beginning is brilliant too, as children are very likely to do that.

Reading so obviously off the script is something I am hoping I will be able to avoid in my video. The sound of this video is also pretty awful, which is something I will need to think about when I am making my video.

This is cute, but not what I will be looking to achieve. It is too 'amateur' for my liking. The children are adorable though.

This is really good. The incorporation of the robots into the news is really clever, and it looks quite professional in places. This has been inspirational.

Child Friendly News Sites:

The main news site for children in the UK is Newsround. This is also shown on the BBC and CBBC channels on television and has been running for many years.

I have searched 'Dale Farm' on the Newsround website, and come up with a few results:

http://search.bbc.co.uk/search?go=toolbar&scope=newsround&q=dale+farm

There is also a website for a children's newspaper which focusses on news from around the world. It is easy to navigate, and enables the child to sign up as a member and receive emails:

I have noticed the colouring on these websites are bright, and eye catching, which is obviously much more appealing to a child. I myself find it difficult to put up with, but children see colours as a positive, and they enjoy looking at bright colours. My 5 year old nephew, Lewis, would find both of these websites (and the newspaper) appealing, as he likes to read the news, sports pages, and the weather reports.
